The Cushy Comfort Hat by Stephen West is a gentle introduction into cable knitting, which can often seem scary or overwhelming.
This one skein project will teach you how to work multiple cables, how to read patterns with cable notation, and how to count cable rows. And at the end, you have your new favorite hat!
What you need to know and be comfortable completing without help from the instructor (or you're willing to learn before this class): How to knit, purl, knitting in the round, knitting in the round small circumference
What you'll learn in this class: German twisted cast on, how to read cable notation and work 3 different kinds of cables
Required Materials:

Yarn: 230 yards of a DK weight yarn
Recommended yarns from the shop: Manos del Uruguay Sami, Rambouillet DK, Acadia, Malabrigo Rios, Kathmandu DK, Cascade Merino DK, West Yorkshire Spinners BFL
Needles:
- US 4 16" circular needles
- US 5 16" circular needles
- US 5 double pointed needles for knitting the crown (or preferred method for knitting small circumference)
Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, a cable needle, optional row counter

Class Policies
- All class fees are non-refundable. If you have a conflict, you must notify us 48 hours before the start date of your first class in order to receive store credit. We will always do our best to help you reschedule, but it may not always be possible.
- Our group classes are for students ages 12 and up. Younger students are welcome to join us for private lessons. We highly recommend a parent or guardian be present for the duration of the lesson.
- No store credit will be issued for unattended classes and no store credit will be issued for cancellations made within 48 hours of the start date of the first class.
- We put the health and safety of all our staff and community members first. If you have been exposed to Covid or you are otherwise feeling unwell, we ask that you please stay home.
- We have a class minimum of 3 students, so it’s never a bad idea to sign up with a friend or two! If you are the only student that signs up for one of our classes, we will contact you ahead of time and issue a full refund if there is a cancellation on our part.
- We understand that sometimes students need some extra help outside of class, so we offer Project Support and Private Lessons.
- For our students to get personalized attention, we like to keep our class sizes small. For this reason, we require students to sign up in advance for all of our classes, lessons, and project support sessions.
