Getting Here/FAQ

Knit 1 is located on bustling Lincoln Ave in North Center neighborhood in Chicago. As you plan your visit, here are some of the considerations you might have for us:

Q: Can I park nearby?

A: Lincoln Ave has paid for parking on either side of the street, which you can purchase on either the ParkChicago app or at any of the designated pay stations. This includes a section directly in front of our store. There is some limited free parking along nearby side streets, notably Berteau Ave. There is also a small city lot about 20 feet away from the store on the same side of the street, just south of us, where there are always an abundance of available spots.

Q: How can I get there without a car?

A: Knit 1 is located a short walk from the Irving Park Brown Line Station, which is also the landing site for many city buses. Lincoln Ave has bike lanes that are accessible but there is sometimes construction that obstructs them. North Center is an easily walk-able area of the city and a car is not necessary to access our shop or any of the other businesses around us.

Q: Do you take cash payment?

A: Knit 1 is completely cashless! We accept debit, credit, and apple or google pay.

Q: I'm traveling light - can you ship my order?

A: Yes we can! If you'd like your purchase shipped to you, we are happy to accommodate and will calculate any additional shipping fees for you.

Q: Can I sit and knit/crochet for a while?

A: Yes! We love people who come in and sit for a while. We have several available chairs and tables for you if you'd like to enjoy the space, or if you are visiting with someone who would like to sit while you shop.

Q: Uh-oh - I made a mistake on my project! Can you help?

A: All of our staff members have decades of knitting and crochet experience under their belts. If your issue can be handled in under 15 minutes and we aren't busy, we're happy to help you in store when you come in. If you think your issue might take more time or would like more individualized support, please call ahead or book a Private Lesson.

Q: I have yarn I need made into a ball/cake. Can you wind it up for me?

A: Yes we can! We offer yarn winding at any time for free for yarn purchases made in our store. For yarn from other stores, we charge $4/skein. We suspend yarn winding services during special events and sales in order to prioritize helping customers in the store.

ADA

Everyone is welcome here at Knit 1! Here are some considerations for you or anyone in your party that might need accommodations if you are visiting us.

Parking/Walkability

Paid parking is available all along Lincoln Ave, including directly in front of Knit 1. There are two curb cuts that directly lead onto our street at either corner. There is also an accessible paid parking lot roughly 20 feet away on the south corner of our street. Parking is free on Sundays. The nearest public transit stop to our store is the Irving Park Brown Line Station, which is roughly an 8 minute walk away along major streets.

Entryway

Unfortunately, our front door must be physically held open for entrance to our store, and is made of heavy wood. If you foresee an issue please feel free to call us ahead of time and we will make sure to come to the front and hold the door open for you. We are always happy to help. There are no steps, only the door sill, so wheelchairs, strollers, or walkers should be able to cross the threshold with little resistance.

Seating

If you or anyone in your party would like to sit during your visit, we have an abundance of chairs in the store.

Store Layout

Knit 1 has yarn all along its walls that almost reach the ceiling, but the central area is generally wide open around a large table, allowing for maneuverability of the space. Staff is always on hand to help bring anything down from shelves that might not be reachable.

Bathroom

We have a single person private restroom for guest use. Unfortunately there is no changing table in the store.
