Have you ever spent weeks knitting a sweater only to realize that it grew three sizes after you blocked it? Have you ever wanted to alter an armhole, a collar, or a hem but had no clue where to start? Do you avoid gauge swatches at all costs, or skip swatching in the round? We've been there!
In this two-hour deep dive, you'll learn about gauge AND how to use knitting math skills to work with – not against – your tension.
Basic knitting math will help you understand your sizing, how to make basic alterations to a garment, and how to substitute yarn in a project successfully!
What you need to know and be comfortable completing without help from the instructor (or you're willing to learn before this class): basic knitting skills and terms (knit, purl)
What you'll learn in this class: You'll learn how to better understand and achieve correct gauge (both flat and in the round), as well as what to do when your gauge just won't match. You'll also learn basic construction math, and how use pattern measurement information to your advantage in choosing sizes or substituting yarn.
Required Materials:
- Pen & paper to take notes with
- Any blocked gauge swatches that you might have to be used for a class activity
- A measuring tape or ruler
What you'll get:
- One 2-hour class session with expert instruction by Keish.
This class is intended for adults. We welcome our younger knitters in private lessons only. For inquiries, please reach out to breean@knit1chgo.com.
