If you are an adventurous beginner ready to take your next step in understanding construction, the Step-by-Step Cardigan by Florence Miller is the perfect pattern for you!

 

This top-down cardigan covers a myriad of essential knitting skills, including raglan shaping, button bands, button holes, and troubleshooting for an excellent fit! Theresa will guide you through each step of the process so you come out with a piece that is perfect for year-round wear.

What you need to know and be comfortable completing without help from the instructor (or you're willing to learn before this class): Knit, Purl, knitting in the round, knitting in a small circumference

What you'll learn in this class: How to knit a top-down cardigan, how to work raglan shaping with increases, how to pick up a button band and work button holes, Italian bind off

Required Materials:

Yarn: Yarn: This cardigan is knit in Aran/chunky weight yarn. The weight is flexible as long as you can hit the desired gauge of 16sts by 21 rows.

  • 766 to 1531 yards of heavy Aran or chunky weight yarn

Recommended yarns from the shop include: Cascade Eco Wool or Eco+, Malabrigo Chunky, Malabrigo Vientos, Cascade 128 Superwash, Cascade Aran Superwash 

Needles:

  • US 6 32” or 40” needles for the button band
  • US 7 32”/40” needles for ribbing AND in your preferred format for working small circumference
  • US 9 32”/40” needles for the body AND in your preferred format for working small circumference

Notions: stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle, measuring tape, 4 buttons

Class Policies

  • All class fees are non-refundable. If you have a conflict, you must notify us 7 days before the start date of your first class in order to receive store credit. We will always do our best to help you reschedule, but it may not always be possible.
  • Our group classes and private lessons are designed for adults ages 18 and up. 
  • No store credit will be issued for unattended classes and no store credit will be issued for cancellations made within 7 days of the start date of the first class.
  • We put the health and safety of all our staff and community members first. If you have been exposed to Covid or you are otherwise feeling unwell, we ask that you please stay home.
  • We have a class minimum of 3 students, so it’s never a bad idea to sign up with a friend or two! If you are the only student that signs up for one of our classes, we will contact you ahead of time and issue a full refund if there is a cancellation on our part.
  • We understand that sometimes students need some extra help outside of class, so we offer Project Support and Private Lessons. 
  • For our students to get personalized attention, we like to keep our class sizes small. For this reason, we require students to sign up in advance for all of our classes, lessons, and project support sessions.
