Cast on a meditative, simple colorwork sweater!
FOUR Mondays from 6-8pm on the following dates: May 18th, June 8th, July 13th, August 17th
The Poplar Tee could really be called the Pop-u-lar Tee because everyone that sees it falls in love.
All of us at Knit 1 have either worked one up or have planned our palettes to make one!
The colorwork motif is meditative and simple, resulting in a "potato-chippy" knitting experience that will have you planning your next Poplar before you even finish your first!
Grab your favorite skeins of Spincycle for a gorgeous fade or work with solids for colorwork that really pops!
What you need to know and be comfortable completing without help from the instructor (or you're willing to learn before this class): Knit, Purl, knitting in the round, knitting in a small circumference, knitting a gauge swatch
What you'll learn in this class: How to work basic stranded colorwork, how to read color work charts, how to work short rows
Required Materials:
We hope you'll consider supporting us by purchasing your materials at Knit 1!
Yarn: You will need three colors of yarn for this pattern. Please note that if you plan to make any adjustments to length of the yoke or the overall sweater, you will need more yarn. Heads up: Multiple team members who have knit this sweater recommend purchasing an extra skein of each of the colors in case you need it – the pattern recommendations will have you playing yarn chicken!
- Main Color: 347 to 744 yards of a fingering or light sport weight yarn
- Contrast Color 1: 210 to 450 yards of a fingering weight yarn
- Contrast Color 2: 167 to 359 yards of a fingering weight yarn
Recommended yarns from the shop include: BC Garn Bio Balance, Lamana Como & Como Tweed, Cascade Heritage, Spincycle Dyed in the Wool, Manos Del Uruguay Alegria, Malabrigo Ultimate Sock
Needles: The recommended needles for this sweater are listed below. We recommend completing your gauge swatch before purchasing all the needles required for this project, as needle size is just a suggestion. We will be working a gauge swatch in our first class, so the only thing you need for the first class is a US 5 needle (we recommend a small circumference circular needle for swatching, like a 16”).
- US 3 circular needles in 24" to 40" (depending on size)
- US 4 circular needles in 24" to 40" (depending on size)
- US 5 circular needles in 24" to 40" (depending on size)
- US 3, US 4, and US 5 needles in your preferred format for small circumference (DPNs, long circular for magic loop, or small circumference circulars)
Notions: stitch markers, waste yarn or barber cord, tapestry needle, scissors, measuring tape
What you'll get:

- Poplar Tee Pattern by Brienne Moody (PDF via email & in your Ravelry library)
