Are you working on a knitting or crochet project that has you stumped?

Are you stuck and really just want a PERSON to help you with the tricky bits?

Maybe you're looking to refresh skills you learned years ago and you desire a faster pace than our beginner classes offer?

Or, perhaps you're looking to learn a completely new skill, such as knitting or crochet (or a more specific technique) but our class lineup doesn't work for your schedule.

We've got you!

Please note: Our private lessons are for folks 18+ years old. We're unable to accommodate lessons for kids at the moment.

HOW TO REQUEST A LESSON

1. Sign up for a 1-1 private lesson by paying the $25 deposit and we'll reach out to schedule a time that works for you with an expert who can guide and teach you!

2. Please leave us a note with what you'd like to focus on for your lesson in the box labeled "order special instructions" during checkout.

Private lessons require a $25 non-refundable deposit to schedule.

This fee will be applied to the total of your lesson – for example, if your lesson runs a full hour, your total is $50, but you would only pay an additional $25 at the end of your lesson.

If you're learning to knit or crochet, we recommend one or two 60-minute sessions. If you need help or guidance on a specific project, you may need more or less time.

During the winter season, we tend to schedule Private Lessons on these days:

  • Wednesdays 12-5
  • Thursdays 12-4
  • Fridays 12-5

If these times do not work for your schedule, please email breean@knit1chgo.com BEFORE booking to discuss options.

If you're unsure how much time you will need, or you have a specific technique you're looking to get support for and you want to make sure we've got the right teacher for you, feel free to reach us directly and we'll be able to advise you: breean@knit1chgo.com

Class Policies

CLASS POLICIES & GUIDELINES

  • All class fees are non-refundable. If you have a conflict, you must notify us at least 7 days before the start date of your first class in order to receive store credit. We will always do our best to help you reschedule, but it may not always be possible.
  • Our group classes and private lessons are designed for adults ages 18 and up.
  • No store credit will be issued for unattended classes and no store credit will be issued for cancellations made within 7 days of the start date of the first class.
  • We put the health and safety of all our staff and community members first. If you have been exposed to Covid or you are otherwise feeling unwell, we ask that you please stay home.
  • We have a class minimum of 3 students, so it’s never a bad idea to sign up with a friend or two! If you are the only student that signs up for one of our classes, we will contact you ahead of time and issue a full refund if there is a cancellation on our part.
  • We understand that sometimes students need some extra help outside of class, so we offer Project Support and Private Lessons.
  • For our students to get personalized attention, we like to keep our class sizes small. For this reason, we require students to sign up in advance for all of our classes, lessons, and project support sessions.
GROUND RULES FOR CLASSES & COMMUNITY
  • Speak Kindly: Knitting and crochet can be challenging, so let’s be KIND and PATIENT with ourselves and each other during the learning journey. Each person's energy has an impact on the group dynamic!
  • Neutral & Positive: Let’s keep our discussion topics generally relaxed and positive so everyone feels comfortable in the space. When in doubt, stick to topics related to what we're gathering together for – knitting, crochet, fiber.
  • Scents & Allergens: To make the space accessible and friendly to those with scent sensitivities, we discourage any particularly strong smells or heavy perfumes. Additionally, you are welcome to bring snacks for yourself to share, however, we ask that you inform us if you're bringing anything with common allergens.
  • Group Class Dynamic & 1-1 Support: We host small sized classes at Knit 1 so that we can accommodate the needs of everyone taking the class. This means we'll need to balance group instruction with intermittent one-on-one help. Your instructor will do their best to support everyone in the class equitably.
  • Prerequisite Skills: If you need additional 1-1 support, we offer Project Support and Private Lessons. Your instructor may recommend these options to you if they discover that you'd benefit from additional support outside of class or in the case you do not have the prerequisite skills for a particular class. We will discuss these options with you outside of the class environment.
