Take your brioche knitting skills to the next level!
FOUR Sundays from 2-4pm on the following dates: March 22nd, April 5th, 12th, and 19th
There’s no better way to learn a new skill than by casting on a stunning accessory. The Cabriola is a visual masterpiece that looks much more complex than it actually is to work up.
The “brioche cable” motif is created by a series of increases and decreases that trick the eye, making this hat addictive to knit without being overly complex!
Choose your two favorite DK weight skeins or use a variegated or color-shifting yarn for an even more surprising journey!
Please note that brioche is an advanced technique appropriate for intermediate knitters. If you have knitted several hats, dabbled with brioche, and are comfortable reading patterns, then this class is appropriate for you!
We recommend that this class should NOT be your first or even second hat, and we'd love for you to have some basic brioche skills.
While initially challenging, brioche is very fun to learn and creates super stretchy, surprisingly breathable fabrics.
What you need to know and be comfortable completing without help from the instructor (or you're willing to learn before this class): How to knit, purl, knit in the round and in small circumference. Some basic brioche experience preferred.
What you'll learn in this class: How to brioche knit, brioche increase, and brioche decrease
Required Materials:
We hope you'll consider supporting us by purchasing your materials at Knit 1!
Yarn: You will need 110 yards EACH of two DK weight yarns, totalling 220 yards for the hat. Note that superwash yarns or yarns that grow significantly after blocking (we're looking at you, cotton and alpaca!) are NOT recommended for brioche as it is already quite stretchy and prone to growth.
Recommended yarns from the shop include: Sandnes Garn Double Sunday, Kathmandu DK, Cascade Merino DK, West Yorkshire Spinners Fleece BFL, Spincycle Dream State, Cascade 220
Needles:
- US 4 16” circular needles (or needle size to achieve gauge)
- US 4 needles in your preferred format for working small circumference (DPNs or magic loop)
Notions: tapestry needle, scissors, stitch markers
What you'll get:
- Four 2-hour class sessions with expert instruction by Carissa
- Cabriola Pattern (PDF via email & in your Ravelry library)
This class is intended for adults 18+. For inquiries, please reach out to breean@knit1chgo.com.
Please read our class policies before signing up for this class.
