Yarn School: Select & substitute yarns with confidence!
Monday, February 10th 6-8pm
Take the guesswork out of choosing and substituting yarn!
In this 2-hour workshop, our resident fiber & textile expert Keish will give you everything you need to feel confident as you navigate a world of yarn possibilities.
You'll learn about different fibers, how they behave when you knit or crochet with them, and the best use case for a myriad of yarns.
We'll also practice knitting with an array of fibers, and see some examples of appropriate yarn swaps in popular patterns.
Required Materials:
A way to take notes (physical or digital)
Optional: Bring a ball of yarn you’re unsure how to use to the workshop
What we’ll cover:
Examining a variety of swatches made with different fibers
Composition and characteristics of different fibers
How to identify and describe yarns
How to confidently choose yarns for patterns
How, why, and when to substitute, match & mix yarns
How fiber characteristics impact blocking
This class is intended for adults. We welcome our younger knitters in private lessons only. For inquiries, please reach out to breean@knit1chgo.com. Minimum enrollment of 2 students is required for class to take place.
