Taking the "EEK!" Out of Steeking

$120.00

Monday evenings from 6-8:30pm on the following dates: October 14th, 21st & 28th

This October, expand your skills by learning about one of the most magical knitting techniques: steeking (where you cut your knitting to make a piece knit in the round into a flat piece)!

We'll be making these cute sheepy coasters, and Theresa will walk you through different ways to reinforce and finish steeked projects.

This class is intended for intermediate or advanced knitters, so please make sure you're comfortable with the techniques in the "what you need to know" section.

What you need to know: How to knit colorwork, how to knit in the round, how to pick up stitches, and being able to identify a column of stitches.

What you’ll learn: Ideal yarn for steeked projects, different ways to reinforce a steek before cutting your projects, and a variety of techniques to finish steeks.

Required Materials:

  • Yarn: You will need two 50-gram balls of non-superwash worsted weight yarn in contrasting colors. Some of the yarns we stock that would work include Lettlopi from Lopi, Juniper Moon Bluefaced Leicester, or Juniper Moon Santa Cruz Organic Merino.

  • Needles and Hooks: Per the pattern, you will need a 16-inch circular need in US size 7. You'll also need a size E crochet hook.

  • Notions: scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, waste yarn.

We hope you’ll consider supporting us by purchasing your class materials at Knit 1!

What you'll get:

  • Three 2.5-hour class sessions with expert instruction by Theresa

  • The Sheepy Steeky Coasters patternby Michele Bernstein (PDF via email & in your Ravelry library)

This class is intended for adults. We welcome our younger knitters in private lessons only. For inquiries, please reach out to breean@knit1chgo.com.

Minimum enrollment of 2 students is required for class to take place.
