Knit a Weekender Sweater
FIVE Mondays from 6-8:00pm on the following dates: March 3rd, 17th, 31st, April 14th & 28th
The Weekender sweater is one of the most popular patterns on Ravelry, with a mind-blowing 14,000 projects! This sweater’s popularity is well-deserved: it looks great with a collared shirt or a pair of cozy leggings, it’s got fun details like the slip-stitch faux front seam, and the reverse stockinette body is perfect for showing off hand-dyed yarns.
This is a perfect sweater for an adventurous beginner who feels comfortable knitting in the round, or for a more advanced knitter who’s looking to learn more about unique finishing details like the tubular cast-on and one-needle kitchener bind off.
What you need to know: how to knit & purl, how to knit in the round, and how to knit small circumferences (magic loop, DPNs, small circulars, etc).
What you’ll learn: the tubular cast on, creating faux seams, wrap and turn short rows, one-needle kitchener stitch, and using the three needle bind off for shoulder seams.
Required Materials:
Yarn: This sweater requires 915-1910 yards of worsted weight yarn, depending on your size.
We recommend purchasing yarn before the class to ensure there is a sufficient quantity for your sweater.
Needles: The needles you need for this project may be different based on your gauge.
For the main body of the sweater you will need a size US 9 40” needle and size US 9 needles in your preferred style for small circumferences (Double Pointed Needles, Magic Loop, or small circulars.
For the ribbing, you will need a size US 8 40” needle and US 8 needles in your preferred style for small circumferences (Double Pointed Needles, Magic Loop, or small circulars.
