Learn to Knit a Sweater
FIVE Tuesdays from 6-8:00pm on the following dates: January 21st & 28th, February 11th & 25th, March 11th.
The Doppio sweater is a great basic sweater with unique details: a folded neckband, compound raglan shaping, and the flexibility to mix and match multiple yarns to create a marled fabric that adds depth and interest.
If you’ve been nervous to work with a fluffy yarn like Suri or Mohair, this sweater is an approachable starting point. And it’s a great sweater for an adventurous beginner!
What you need to know: how to knit & purl in the round, and how to knit small circumferences (magic loop, DPNs, small circulars, etc).
What you’ll learn: Compound Raglan construction, German Short Rows, crochet chain neckline reinforcement, the tubular bind off, and a folded neckband.
Required Materials:
Yarn:
The Doppio sweater is a choose-your-own-adventure style sweater. You can hold two strands of fingering weight yarn together with 1 strand of lace. You could hold 1 strand of DK/Worsted yarn with lace. You could use 1 strand of bulky yarn!
Choose any combination of yarns that help you meet the gauge of 15 sts and 22 rows over 4 inches.
No matter what combination you choose, you will want the following yardage for EACH yarn: 670-710 (737-789, 828-892, 917-991, 1006-1104)(1106-1205, 1213-1326, 1337-1464, 1445-1558)yds.
For example: if I’m knitting size 3 with two strands of fingering and 1 strand of lace, I would want 828-892 yards of EACH yarn, which would be a total of 2484-2676 yards.
Needles: You may need different needle sizes based on your gauge. For the first class, all that is needed is the size US 10 16” circular needle.
Per the pattern, you will need:
Size US 10 circular needles in 16” AND 32” or 40” for the main needle
Size US 7 circular needles in 16” AND 32” or 40”
The designer also recommends size US 4 circular needles in 16” AND 32” or 40”
Notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle, waste yarn, and a size 7 crochet hook.
We hope you’ll consider supporting us by purchasing your materials at Knit 1!
What you'll get:
