Learn to Knit Your First Hat

$95.00

TWO Sundays from 9-11am on the following dates: January 19th and 26th.

This class is perfect for knitters who are interested in learning how to knit small circumferences, a technique that’s necessary for sweater sleeves, mittens, socks, hat crown shaping, and a whole bunch of fun projects.

In this class, Theresa will teach you about all of the different techniques people use to knit small circumferences (Double Pointed Needles, Magic Loop, Flexiflips, two circulars, etc.), how to switch to a different knitting method halfway through a project, how to switch yarn colors, how to get your work back on the needles when you have to rip your knitting back, and the importance of gauge swatching.

What you need to know to take this class: how to knit & purl, and how to knit in the round.

Required Materials:

This pattern is very flexible (it’s written for 4 different yarn weights!). To keep this project quick and have students finish with the class, we recommend two of the heavier weight yarns we carry in the shop: Malabrigo Rasta or Malabrigo Chunky.

We hope you’ll consider supporting us by purchasing your materials at Knit 1!

Yarn & Needles:

You will need different materials based on the yarn you choose.

If you choose Malabrigo Rasta, you will need:

  • 2 skeins of Malabrigo Rasta, each a different color

  • A US 11 16” circular needle

  • A US 13 16” circular needle

  • Your preferred small circumference needle in size US 13*

If you choose Malabrigo Chunky, you will need:

  • 2 skeins of Malabrigo Chunky, each a different color

  • A US 10 16” circular needle

  • US 10.5 16” circular needle

  • Your preferred small circumference needle in size US 10.5*

*Small circumferences are typically knit using double pointed needles or Magic Loop using a long circular needle. Since a large component of this class is focused on finding the small circumference method that makes the most sense to each student, please note that you may want to wait to buy this needle until our first class session.

Notions: You will need a stitch marker and a tapestry needle.

What you'll get:

This class is intended for adults. We welcome our younger knitters in private lessons only. For inquiries, please reach out to breean@knit1chgo.com. Minimum enrollment of 2 students is required for class to take place.
