Knit Thrummed Cadeautje Slippers

$140.00

Tuesdays 6-8:00pm on the following dates: November 12th & 19th, December 3rd & 10th.

Cadeautje (pronounced Keh-doe-jeh) is the Dutch word for "gift," and it really is the perfect name for these cozy slippers. This pattern uses a technique called thrumming, where you add unspun wool into stitches to create a fluffy layer of wool on the inside of your project. With 10 different size options, you can make a pair for everyone and anyone!

What you need to know to take the class: How to knit flat, how to knit in the round, and how to knit small circumference.

What you’ll learn during the class: Thrumming, short rows using decreases, and different ways to make your knit footwear non-slip.

Required Materials:

Yarn: For this pattern you will need a main yarn, which will make up the body of the slipper, and a contrast color, which will make the thrums.

  • Main Yarn: Chunky-weight non-superwash wool yarn. Malabrigo Chunky or Istex Álafosslopi would both work. 115[125, 140,155](170, 190, 210) [230, 250, 275]yds depending on size.

  • Contrast Yarn: 1-2 Skeins of Malabrigo Rasta. Please do not substitute a different yarn, as it may not have the correct attributes to be converted to thrums! If you want your slippers to be *extra* fluffy, pick two skeins. Otherwise, you should only need 1 skein.

Needles: Size 7 US needles, or size to meet gauge. You will want a 16-24" needle for the sole and upper of the slipper, as well as your preferred needles for knitting small circumference (DPNs, Magic Loop, Small Circulars).

Notions: Standard knitting notions (scissors, stitch markers, tape measure, tapestry needle, etc.)

We hope you’ll consider supporting us by purchasing your materials at Knit 1!

What you'll get:

  • Four 2-hour class sessions with instruction by Theresa

  • The Cadeautje Slippers by Ysolda Teague (PDF via email & in your Ravelry library)

This class is intended for adults. We welcome our younger knitters in private lessons only. For inquiries, please reach out to breean@knit1chgo.com.

**Minimum enrollment of 2 students is required for class to take place.
