Insert Happy Sweater Face

Intimidated by sweater knitting?  Scared of knitting patterns?  Want to knit a sweater in the company of some super fun people?!  Then this class is perfect for you.  Allyson Dykhuizen will take you on the sweater journey.  We'll break the sweater pattern of your choice down into sections, get you on a sweater knitting schedule, and help you every step of the way; from picking out materials to seaming your sleeves.  Sweater Club will help you knit a sweater!  We'll also be taking techniques from Amy Herzog's CustomFit and helping you modify your sweater pattern with your exact measurements to get you a sweater you're sure to wear again and again.  Signing up for this class gets you 4 or 8 class periods of your choice over the course of 10 weeks.  The goal is to finish your sweater by the end of the class.  Winter session of Sweater Club starts Sunday January 10th and continues every Sunday morning 10-Noon for 10 weeks.  Sign up for either 4 class periods over those 8 weeks for $80 or 8 class periods for $140

A Quickie Post re: Christmas Stocking Class

This image is perfect, right? Grass, leaves and Christmas stockings. We still have space in our Christmas Stocking Class next Saturday, November 7th from 10AM to Noon. It's 3 weeks long and costs $75. You will get a pattern but you will have to buy yarn and needles. We have lots of gorgeous colors and we don't think Christmas stockings need to be red and green, but we have many shades of those, too. In this class you will learn to knit in the round, knit with multiple colors using the stranded or Fair Isle method and read charts. Please join us!
To register call us at 773.244.1646 or you can email me at lynn@knit1chgo.com
(soon we will have a brand new website with a shopping cart, but until then it's old school, sorry)
We also still have a couple spots in our Weaving Workshop on November 14th.  $110 and you get a loom, yarn and all the rest of your supplies.  See previous post for photos of our inspiration and more deets.

Weaving? What Gives??

I've been noticing a trend: weaving.  Specifically tapestry weaving hanging on walls.  I'm smitten.  I was pondering what to do with my obsession when I got an email from artist and weaving instructor, Joslyn Villalpando asking me had I ever considered offering weaving classes at Knit 1.  I wrote back and said why yes, I had been thinking about it.  But, I asked her, what do we do for looms?  She said, not to worry, I make these small looms that are light, portable and (she didn't say this, but I am) and, oh, SO clever.  You can see it up in the corner of the poster on the top of the post.  Yes, that's the whole thing and you go home with it, because it's included in your class!

So, obsession fostered and cultivated.  Weaving class scheduled.  All the info is on the top of the page, but until we have our new site up and running you will have to call the shop to register.  BTW, we have tons of yarns you'll be able to choose from all included in the class.

Check out these gorgeous pieces:

Expanding Hours

We are adding some hours.  It's not set in stone yet, which is why I titled this post "Expanding Hours".  We are experimenting with having the store open in the morning and have begun with Thursdays when the store will open at 11AM.  We will still stay open until 8:30.  We thought it would be a good time for those of you who drop kids off or otherwise have a bit of "you time".  Please stop by and say hi, see all of our gorgeous fall yarns and pick up a new project or get started again on the project that's languished.

Shibui Fall and Winter

Truss

New things are arriving everyday and Thursday we opened a large box from Shibui to find 11 colors of their new yarn, Dune!  As with other Shibui yarns, Dune combines luxury fibers; this time it's 50% baby alpaca, 25% baby camel and 25% silk.  As Shibui says "this is a deeply hued yarn, that knits into a rich fabric".  With the debut of Dune comes the new Fall Winter Lookbook.

Please stop in to see our new Shibui yarns and feel and try on Truss.  It's a beautiful and flattering garment and not a difficult knit.  We have gorgeous colors of Maai and Pebble to tempt you.

We are a bit late, but Shibui is sponsoring a KAL.  The design is Motif, knit in Dune and is available free with your purchase of yarn.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
Lynn
