Midwestern Knits Book and Trunk Show @ Knit1
We are thrilled to be hosting an event that is very close to our hearts: Authors Allyson Dykhuizen and Carina Spencer will be signing their new book, Midwestern Knits at a special Meet the Authors Knit Night on Thursday, August 27th from 5:30 - 8:30. The book is beautiful. It features Midwestern designers and Midwestern yarns all set against our Midwestern landscape. Allyson and Carina are bringing a trunk show with all the garments from the book. Knit 1 will feature a limited quantity of local yarn and at the end of the evening one of you will win a kit for the River Walk Mitts. Refreshments will be served, of course and bring your knitting!
I look forward to seeing all of you,
Lynn
It's YarnCrawl, Y'all!
AND Knit1 turns 10!!!!
Knit1 opened in August of 2005 with Karen Clements as the owner. I remember literally coming to a dead stop in the middle of Lincoln Avenue when I saw the sign! I couldn't believe that a yarn store had opened in my neighborhood. Karen and I became fast friends and I started working for her maybe 8 months or so after she opened. I started by teaching a class and then working in the shop, there's more to the story, or maybe to the history, but here we are 10 years later. I bought the shop in March of 2010 when Karen and her family moved to California. It's truly been the best years of my life. I've made incredible friends, learned a lot from all the students and customers who come to the shop and hopefully gotten to be a better knitter and shop owner over these years. And now it's time to celebrate!
What a happy bit of synchronicity it is to have YarnCrawl and our Anniversary coincide. To celebrate these occasions we have several things planned: First, our Annual Crawl Party is going to be on Friday, July 31st starting at 6:30PM. We are overjoyed that Karen Clements will be here to celebrate! Our free Yarn Crawl pattern is a piece designed by Karen exclusively for Knit 1's 10 Year Anniversary. As part of our celebration that night we will have a new palette of our limited edition Knit 1 Yarn designed especially for our Anniversary event by local dyer Dagmar Klos.
Second: Our other dear friends from California, Anzula Luxury Fibers, will be here for a trunk show and yarn sale on Sunday, August 2nd starting at noon. They are here for 3 hours only. If any of you were here last year for the trunk show you know it's gonna be good! They bring tons of yarn and sample garments and it's yarn-y, stitching heaven! If you haven't seen their yarn, even more reason to come by, plus they bring some of the lines that we don't carry but lust after. We'll have refreshments, raffles, free stuff and the usual merriment!
We can't wait to see all of you!
Lynn and Karen
Welcome to Summer
This is pretty much what we've been dealing with lately. Last Monday we listened to tornado sirens for at least an hour. I've lived here most of my life and I can't remember hearing those sirens here. Pretty creepy, indeed.
In stitching news, though summer has barely begun we are already anticipating the new yarn we've ordered for fall -- Swan's Island, the new fiber from Shibui and a new fiber from Sincere Sheep -- just to whet your appetite. And wait'll you see the pattern support! So many things I want to stitch. Many really creative people are creating yarns and patterns. I'm so energized by what I'm seeing and I feel excited about the future of our crafts.
We're also working on Yarn Crawl which is coming up in just over a month! It's our 10 year anniversary and I can't wait to celebrate with all of you. Stay tuned....
In the meantime, brave the weather and come see our summer yarns and my favorite new item the Ambatalia Bento Bag.
It comes in 3 sizes -- small $18; medium $20; and large $24.

KALs
Through out the year we offer Knit Alongs; projects that we do together as a group. These are unstructured meetings that anyone can participate in at no cost. Knit 1 offers discounts on the yarn for the project; though not a formal class, help is offered to those who need it.
The Modern Tunic Knit-a-Long is about to begin. We're casting on Monday, April 13 and we'll wrap up on the weekend of June 13 and 14. This is such a great garment and it can be knit in so many yarns and combinations. When Lori was here for the workshop in January, she was wearing it knit in Shibui Linen and Cima. I've started mine in that combo and I love it. I'm continually impressed by the brilliance of Shibui yarn. So many yarn combinations work and you can choose to mix colors as well. You don't need to do it in Shibui, we have lots of other yarns that would be perfect. Stop into the shop and we'll get you all set up.

2068 people have knit it on Ravelry and it looks good on everyone! Cory's knitting it right now in Noro Takeuma and it's beautiful. The original is knit in Noro Kureyon and we're excited to try it in Schoppel Wolle Gradient. Any self-striping yarn will work, even sock yarn (just means more knitting).
Please join us for the Kickoff September 11 at 6:30.
Here's how it works: We all cast on the same evening. Some of our friends live too far to join, so they're going to Skype in. Our job is to keep you on task by setting a schedule which is below. You can post on the Knit 1 FB page or on Ravelry to get help or ask questions. Yarn for the project will be 10% off. We are here to help you and make recommendations.
October 2nd we'll establish the circumference.
October 23rd we'll start the decreases.
November 6th we'll seam and pick up for the waistband.
November 20th we'll wrap up! Literally!!
