Tegna

$130.00

Join Karen for a class on Tegna by Caitlin Hunter of Boyland Knitworks, an ideal summer sweater. It is size inclusive, flattering to wear with lace around the bottom edge, and when made out of a light weight yarn, allows you to wear hand knits all through the warm weather. Knitted seamlessly on circular needles from the bottom up, you start with the slightly flared lace hem, then work up to the armholes where you separate your work and work the front and back flat. The pattern includes instructions to customize the body and sleeve lengths. Tegna can also be made with longer sleeves, if you prefer a lovely cooler weather sweater. This class will focus on understanding and mastering lace knitting. You will have the option to do one or two repeats of the lace border at the hem of your sweater, as well as options for sleeve length.

What you need to know:
Students should have previously made at least a sweater or two in the round before. They should know how to: knit, purl, yarn over, increase, decrease (k2tog, SSK), bind off. Experience with lace knitting and short rows are helpful but not required.

What you’ll learn:
- Bottom up garment construction
- How to make specialized stitches used in lace (e.g., Sl2, k1, p2sso; k4tog; etc)
- Short rows (wrap and turn or German short rows)
- 3 needle bind off

Required Materials:
- YARN: 760-1300 yards of fingering to DK weight yarn for the tee version of the pattern, depending on the size you choose to make. If you’d like to make a long sleeve version you will need to account for the extra yardage.
- NEEDLES: Circular needles in the appropriate size for your yarn to make 5.5 st/inch gauge, plus 1 size smaller (Testers used a wide range of sizes depending on yarn and personal knitting style). The designer used sizes 3 and 2, but testers used up to size 7! Swatching is key. Lace knitting may be easier with pointy needles.
- NOTIONS: Stitch markers, Stitch holders(or scrap yarn), tapestry needle, an extra needle for three needle bind-off

Knit 1 will provide:
- Instruction
- Pattern
- Enlarged charts
- Checklist for lace panel
Karen, your teacher, is also available in advance of the class to help you select appropriate needles for your yarn.

Classes will be held on Sunday mornings April 28, May 5, 19, June 2 & 9 from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. with the possibility of extra classes being held on June 16 or 23 as needed.

This class is intended for adults. We welcome our young knitters in private lessons only. For inquiries, reach out to Lynn at info@knit1chgo.com
